Thing 4 Social Media

Prior to this assignment, I have set up both a Facebook and Twitter account. I'm not a huge Facebook user (too many mundane comments that fill up the wall) but I can see the potential for putting yourself in a positive light for potential employers. One way is to have a public profile and use that strategically or as a "personal branding tool". Keep your posts and photos squeaky clean. Join groups and link to blogs (contribute to blogs if you can) that are interesting, professional and relevant to your career goals. Use your Facebook profile as an online resume and let your Facebook friends know when you are job seeking.

Thing 3 Online Communication

First, I have to be honest. I don't see myself using the Ai e-mail account. In fact I set it up immediately to forward incoming mail to my regular Yahoo account. I haven't been receiving forwarded mail so I'll have to see why that's not working.

I do like the student portal My Ai Campus for the ability to do many things independently such as register for classes, pay my bill and access to the library resources.

One thing that I didn't notice before is the My Web Space for a student's personal webspace. This is nice and I think I should set something up here.

Well, off to Thing 4!

Thing 2 RSS Feeds

I have set up a few feeds to my favorite blogs and columnist. When I have time I will add some more feeds. I really like the Google Reader account I set up so that I can easily check for new content in one place without having to visit each individual site.

I realized almost every blog/news site has the RSS feed icon which makes the site easy to follow. When I tried to search for blogs that interested me, the results were disappointing and not quite what I was looking for. For me, it's easier to find blogs that interest me from Google text and image searches.

Thing 1 First Time on My Blog

Well, so far so good! Setting up my blog was an easy task. Let's hope the remaining 15 things go just as well.
